The Guanghua Hydra are in their second year in the SSSA this year, with both the boys and girls basketball programs in their secoond year of competitive play as organized teams. Located
outside the city center in KangQiao, Pudong, student-athletes at GHC try to balance the rigors of their heavy academic workload with the intensity of an challenging practice schedule.
Academically, GHC offers an IGCSE, A-Level, and American Diploma Program, giving students a wide variety of options to choose from when it comes to planning their individual futures. Athletically, the Boys and Girls Basketball are just two of the six athletic programs offered as an extra-curricular at GHC (the others being Football, Badminton, Track and Field, and Volleyball, all in their fledging year of competitive organization). Each of these programs seeks to build a strong foundation of discipline, hard work, and sportsmanship throughout their first year, and use these foundations to set the mold for future successes in our programs. In the end, the overarching goal of the GHC Athletics Program is to bring light to truth that athletics should not be used solely as a means of fun and competition, but also as an important tool for the personal and academic growth of our Student-Athletes.
As a whole program, our students are taught about the strength of our mascot, the mythical "Hydra", in that should a head be cut off, the creature does not perish, but instead two more heads grow back in it's place to continue the fight for victory. We are a team not just as individual players support each other to make a team, but also as a program in that every sport gives support to the others. Every sport a head, and when one suffers defeat, it will not die, but instead grow back strong and better than before with the support of all our student-athletes. We are the Hydra. We are Guanghua.
